Benjamin Bloodwell is a Philadelphia-based cinematographer, specializing in documentary and commercial photography.  In his two decades of work, he has collaborated with such filmmakers as Alex Gibney, Michael Apted, Stanley Nelson, Josh Seftel, and Marina Zenovich. Projects he lensed have been seen at all the major film festivals, as well as HBO, Netflix, Showtime, A&E, and theaters around the country.  Benjamin is also a Local 600 Camera Operator, working with such filmmakers as Ryan Coogler and Darren Aronofsky.

Bloodwell’s work can be seen on HBO’s Emmy-award winning documentary series We’re Here, following three world-famous drag queens through small town America, sharing the emotional stories of the LGBTQ people they meet and performing powerful drag shows in their community. 

Alex Gibney’s Totally Under Control, filmed during the height of the pandemic using remote shooting methods Bloodwell developed, recently won multiple Critics Choice Awards.

Other Gibney projects Bloodwell photographed include Agents of Chaos (HBO) , Crazy Not Insane (HBO), The Armstrong Lie (Sony Pictures), and The Forever Prisoner which won an Emmy for Outstanding Investigative Documentary.

Most recently Bloodwell had the honor of documenting the great Paul Simon recording his latest album in the Gibney doc In Restless Dreams, which premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival to much acclaim.

Ben continues to shoot high end documentaries and commercials, traveling from his home base in West Philadelphia to locations around the world. Bloodwell’s work is highly sought after for it’s compassionate and empathetic point of view, as well as his earnest work ethic and laid back professionalism.
